A New Year's Eve party for the rich and famous in the Swiss Alps: The building lion Ferdinand from topping-out has invited the jet set to a glittering party in his chalet in the canton of Vaud and everyone of rank and name has come. But suddenly the mood changes: from topping-out ceremony throws his guests out of the villa and locks themselves into one of the bedrooms. What happened? When they are found dead from the topping-out ceremony the next morning, the Swiss police are faced with a mystery and ask one of the guests for help: Commissioner Louis Sagel, German-French investigator from Hamburg.Sagel finds a handful of suspects on site who have never left the party: the victim's embittered wife, his secretary, who seems to be hiding something, the victim's biggest competitor, a waiter who has stayed there despite work, and a old acquaintance, the old sea bear Knut Asmussen. The Hamburg inspector stands in front of a Mystery that he can only solve with the help of the audience, because the dead man is not lying in the bedroom in which he had entrenched himself and which is still locked from the inside. No, the dead man is lying on the floor of the well-heated living room... he froze to death.
